Spirit Of Boom Colt Sets New VOBIS Gold RecordMonday, 23rd April 2018A colt by Eureka Stud's sire sensation Spirit of Boom yesterday became the highest-priced horse ever sold at an Inglis VOBIS Gold Yearling Sale. Offered by Rosemont Stud, Lot 248 (Spirit of Boom x Moxie Doll) was the subject of a fierce bidding duel before eventually selling to Gelagotis Racing and Anthony Panozzo for $120,000. "The stallion is doing incredible things and we’re really thrilled to get a nice running style of a horse like him with a pedigree to run, by a stallion in the top three or four in Australia at the moment," Manny Gelagotis said. The top-priced filly of the day was Lot 201, a daughter of multiple Group 1 winning miler Toronado out of Take All Of Me who was knocked down to Tony Ottobre of Boneo Horse Ranch for $85,000 from the Armidale Stud draft. "The Toronado’s, I really do like. I also like the High Chaparral side and I see a lot of High Chaparral in this filly," Ottobre said. "She’s a 3YO onwards type, mid distance, definitely not a sprinter. She’s a very nice Classic type of racehorse." At the conclusion of the VOBIS Gold sale its average was $19,265 with a gross of $3,853,000 at a clearance rate of 79%. Inglis’ Victorian Bloodstock Manager Simon Vivian was satisfied with the day’s trade. "To be able to achieve a record price for the sale was very pleasing," he said. "There was great support here from the Victorian training bench, as well as NSW, South Australia and Tasmanian trainers too so I’m looking forward to seeing some fantastic results on the track from these horses from next year." All the yearlings sold yesterday are eligible to be nominated for the $8m Inglis race series. Inglis’ next auction is the annual HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, held over two days of May 13 and 14 at White Park and complemented by an additional Weanling and Thoroughbred Sale. At Royal Randwick in Sydney, Arrowfield Stud's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Snitzel (Redoute's Choice-Snippets' Lass, by Snippets) celebrated an elite race success when 3YO Australian-bred colt Trapeze Artist (Snitzel-Treppes, by Domesday) showed his fighting qualities when scoring a narrow win in the $600,000 weight-for-age Gr1 All Aged Stakes (1400m) for 3YO+, defeating Le Romain & Showtime. Owner Bert Vieira is now in the enviable position of having to decide whether to accept one of the big money stud deals on offer for Trapeze Artist or continue racing him and target events such as The Everest and possibly even Royal Ascot. "Obviously I've had a lot of offers. I will make some firm decision on Monday, and hopefully we will make the right decision for him," Vieira told Sky Racing. "I would love to race him in The Everest, to be honest. It is exciting." He added: "If I did that it means I can't breed him this season, I'll have to race a few more Group Ones and then maybe take him to Ascot and breed him next year. That's my option." This was the third top-flight victory for Trapeze Artist who advanced his record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes, Gr1 Golden Rose, Gr2 Expressway Stakes & Gr3 Black Opal Stakes) and 2 placings (the Gr1 Randwick Guineas & Gr1 Inglis Sires' Produce Stakes) from 14 starts for $3,102, 850 in earnings. Hailing from the female family of Gr1 winners Crawl and Boardwalk Angel, Trapeze Artist was passed in for $250,000 at the 2016 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Vieira Group. Interestingly, Trapeze Artist also traces his female line back to New Zealand mare Entreaty, the dam of legendary racehorse Phar Lap.

An $85,000 yearling at the 2017 Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale where she was consigned by Maluka Thoroughbreds, Seabrook improved her record to 2 wins (including the Gr2 Sweet Embrace Stakes) and 1 placing (including the Gr2 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies) from 6 starts for $556,300 in earnings. Trainer Mick Price said Seabrook would now head for a break to be prepared for the Gr1 Thousand Guineas in Melbourne in the Spring. "It's fantastic. She's done a good job and she's thrived in Sydney," Price told Sky Racing. "She goes straight to the paddock and will be set for the Thousand Guineas." From the Don Eduardo mare Midnight Revels, Seabrook hails from the family of dual Gr1-winning sprinter Malaguerra, Gr1 Coolmore Classic winner Aloha, and the stakes-winning 2YOs Tennessee Morn and Tennessee Midnight. Seabrook's victory also gave Damien Oliver his 110th Group 1 win, more than any active rider in Australia and second only to the late George Moore who retired with 119 top-flight wins.

Inglis Graduates Clean Sweep Group OnesMonday, 23rd April 2018Another clean sweep of Group 1 races and multiple other Stakes races around the country capped off a dominant day for Inglis graduates and their connections on Saturday. Star 3YO colt Trapeze Artist (Snitzel) made it back-to-back Group 1 victories, winning the All Aged Stakes, while 2YO filly Seabrook (Hinchinbrook) proved too strong over the mile in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes. Burning Passion (Group 3 Hall Mark Stakes), Moss Trip (Group 3 JHB Carr Stakes), Sprightly Lass (Listed Bel Esprit Stakes) and Sopressa (Group 3 Schweppervescence Stakes) were other stakes winners to impress on the day. Bert Vieira, owner and breeder of Trapeze Artist, arguably the most valuable colt in Australian racing, has numerous options for his star colt. He can either retire him to stud immediately, push on to The Everest in the Spring, or even continue racing for another 13 months and target Royal Ascot next year. "His future, I have no idea honestly, I've had a lot of offers but I'm not sure. I will make a firm decision on Monday." Vieira said. Meanwhile, Seabrook gave Luke and Mags Anderson their first Group 1 at Maluka Thoroughbreds when she won the Champagne Stakes. "She was always a nice big strong filly with a good brain," Luke Anderson said of Seabrook. "It's a brilliant feeling watching her win a Group 1. She's been so strong all prep and totally deserved that for Blueblood Thoroughbreds and the Mick Price team."

Tosen Stardom Fee AnnouncedMonday, 23rd April 2018Woodside Park Stud has announced that it will stand dual Group 1 winner Tosen Stardom this season for the highly competitive fee of $17,500 plus GST. The Japanese-bred Tosen Stardom (Deep Impact-Admire Kirameki, by End Sweep) was one of the stars of last Spring recording brilliant victories in the Gr1 Emirates Stakes (2000m) and Gr1 Toorak Handicap (1600m) in Melbourne. Trained in Australia by Darren Weir, Tosen Stardom won 7 of his 29 starts for over $3.4 million in earnings. By Champion Japanese sire Deep Impact, Tosen Stardom is a massive coup for Victorian breeders being one of just three Deep Impact sire sons available to breeders outside of his native Japan. Woodside Park Stud's James Price is delighted to offer mare owners the opportunity to tap into these world-class bloodlines. "You only have to watch his Emirates Stakes win, and hear the excitement resonating in Matt Hill voice say "Tosen Stardom drops from the sky", to know that he is a serious, serious racehorse, and that you can expect the same success at stud." Price added, Tosen Stardom will be strongly supported by his owners, Northern Farm's Mr Yoshida & Mr Shimakawa, Australian Bloodstock and Woodside Park Stud. He will have every opportunity with the best performed and proven producing mares to hit the ground running with a brilliant first crop of foals."
