Woodside Secures Redoute's Son
After recently acquiring promising young stallion Written Tycoon for stud duties this season, Woodside Park has announced that Elzaam (Redoute's Choice-Mambo In Freeport, by Kingmambo), will also join their 2013 roster. The Shadwell owned Elzaam was retired to stud earlier this year and is currently standing his first Northern Hemisphere season at Ballyhane Stud in Ireland. Purchased for the equivalent of $500,000 by Shadwell as a yearling, Elzaam made an impressive winning debut as a two years old at York in May of his juvenile year. At his second start at Royal Ascot he was second in the Gr2 Coventry Stakes. He developed into a high class sprinter at three winning the Carnarvon Stakes by 6 lengths before an impressive fourth in the Gr1 Golden Jubilee Stakes, only a head from Gr1 winning Australian sprinter and current Widden Stud stallion Star Witness. Richard Lancaster, Shadwell manager commented on Elzaam's sire potential and pending shuttle debut, "Shadwell is delighted that Elzaam will get a chance to stand in the Southern Hemisphere. He has been extremely well supported in Ireland for his first season in the Northern Hemisphere and we are confident that he will prove very popular in Australia. He was a very good racehorse and has a top pedigree with the added attraction of being by champion sire Redoute's Choice." Meanwhile, Woodside Park manager Murray Tillett enthused, "Elzaam is a well credentialed, fast son of Redoute's Choice that was an outstanding two and three years old. He is a stunning looking horse that possessed a tremendous amount of ability. Woodside Park Stud is very excited to be working with Shadwell and standing Elzaam for the forthcoming season." Ezaam will stand at a fee of $10,000 (inc GST).

Cojuangco's grand-daughter Monica Barrera, who is Gooree's Racing Manager, said, "He has always been a special colt and we were so thrilled to see him come out and prove that last Saturday... He was an outstanding foal, probably the pick of all of our foals in fact, so we had always hoped he might develop into a sire prospect being by an outstanding sire in Fastnet Rock from such a great family." Samaready Half-Sister Scores At Sandown
The dashing victory of Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Samaready's half-sister Samarmeteors (Northern Meteor-Samar, by Secret Savings) at Sandown yesterday has levelled the 2YO winners' tally at 11 with fellow Widden Stud stallion Sebring for the season, reports breednet.com. The Gerry Harvey homebred dominated from the start in her second start to take the 1000m race and drew this response from trainer Mick Price: "Race experience always helps and she did it beautifully at both ends and just drew away, so it was very good... She's been a very backward, slow maturing filly and had x-ray issues as a yearling, but now she'd be one of the soundest horses we've had... We'll certainly try and get some black-type with her. The dam (Samar) has had two stakes-winners already and hopefully this will be the third." Samar is already proving a gilt-edged broodmare, having also produced Gr2 Karrakatta Plate winner Night War (by General Nediym).

At Maisons-Laffitte in France, deceased former Widden Stud shuttler Anabaa (Danzig-Balbonella, by Gay Mecene) added a group success when French-bred colt Style Vendome (Anabaa-Place Vendome, by Dr Fong) scored a 2.5-lengths victory for trainer Nicolas Clement in the €80,000 Gr3 Prix Djebel (1400m) for 3YO males, over fellow colts Snowday (Falco-Oceanique, by Forest Wildcat) & Penny's Picnic (Kheleyf-Zerky, by Kingmambo). Style Vendome took his record to 4 wins & a runner-up from 5 starts. Bookmakers reacted immediately by slashing the odds about the colt for the UK's Gr1 Qipco 2000 Guineas, however Clement may elect to head towards France's Poule d'Essai des Poulains instead.
Black Type Affairs Beckon For Florid
Following hot on the heels of Gr2 Todman Slipper Stakes winner & leading Gr1 Golden Slipper chance Criterion (Sebring-Mica's Pride, by Bite the Bullet), Australia's Champion 2YO Colt of 2007-2008 and Widden Stud sire Sebring (More Than Ready-Purespeed, by Flying Spur) unveiled yet another potential top-liner yesterday at Warwick Farm in the form of 2YO filly Florid Affair (Sebring-Show Exhibit, by Danehill). Runner-up to subsequent Gr2 Magic Night Stakes winner Scandiva on debut, it was barely a training gallop for Florid Affair at Warwick Farm where she controlled the tempo and romped away to a decisive 4-length victory. With a distaff line tracing to Gr1-winning brothers El Gran Senor and Try My Best, Florid Affair was a $200,000 purchase from the 2012 Magic Million Gold Coast draft of Baramul Stud. Meanwhile, from a pedigree perspective, Florid Affair also opens the door to a potentially potent nick of Sebring with Danehill mares.
