R3.6 Million Sale-Topping Colt To Mike De Kock

Thursday, 9th May 2013

Meanwhile, in South African racing news, leading trainer Mike de Kock is to train the sale-topper from the recent National Yearling Sale, the R3.6 million colt appropriately named Trees Of Green (Dynasty-Wonderful World, by Complete Warrior) in an ode to Louis Armstrong's 1976 hit single. Purchased by Markus Jooste's Mayfair Speculators, the Drakenstein-sold Trees Of Green is a half-brother to this season's Gr1 Cape Premier Yearling Sales Guineas runner-up Chave De Oura (by Jet Master) and is out of a Gr1 South African Fillies Sprint winner. According to goldcircle.co.za, the colt is the joint second-highest priced yearling sold at auction in South Africa with Gr1 Premier's Champion Stakes winner Potala Palace (Singspiel-Alignment, by Alzao) reaching the same figure when selling to Oscar Pistorius and his partners at the 2010 National Yearling Sale.

Consigned by Drakenstein Stud, he was sold to Mayfair Speculators. Named Trees of Green, the colt is a half-brother to this season's top-class 3YO Chave de Oura.

Dato Tan Says O'Brien Will Decide So You Think Target

Friday, 8th July 2011

Malaysian businessman & part-owner Dato Tan Chin Nam confirmed the keenly-awaited choice between “continuing his ground-breaking northern hemisphere campaign or returning to Australia for a possible 3rd Cox Plate” for former Australian superstar & now 7-time Gr1-winning 4YO entire So You Think (High Chaparral-Triassic, by Tights) will be made by Coolmore’s Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien. Dato Tan told The Daily Telegraph: “I learned a long time ago to listen to great trainers - that is why you give them your horses. I listen to Bart (Cummings) & we have been very successful. We have had So You Think, Viewed, Saintly, Faint Perfume, God's Own, Wonderful World, Catalan Opening, Danendri, Danarani & of course Think Big & so many others. So You Think is now with Aidan O'Brien, who is also a great trainer & I listen to his advice.” Dato Tan (who has won 3 Gr1 Cox Plates with Saintly in 1996 & So You Think 2009-2010) admitted Australia's weight-for-age championship was “a race he covets”, but whether his champion returns for a shot at equalling Kingston Town's hat-trick of wins was up to O'Brien, noting: “The Cox Plate is a race I love, it is one of the world's great races. But I want to see what is best for So You Think. If Aidan O'Brien says that it is the Cox Plate, then I would love to see him come home and defend his title. If Aidan says there is more to conquer (in the Northern Hemisphere) then I say 'conquer'. Like any parent, you want to do what is best for your children; I want whatever is best for So You Think. Time will tell what that is. Only Kingston Town has won 3 Cox Plates & no horse from Australia or New Zealand has won the Arc or a Breeders Cup race. History stands before him. I think So You Think will man up & show what he can do wherever he goes.”

Meanwhile Mark Morrissey (manager of Colin Tidy's betchoice.com) reports Due Sasso is the horse to beat in Saturday's $1 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs at Caulfield in Melbourne. The Magic Millions Adelaide Sale graduate has drawn barrier 10, but Morissey insisted: "That shouldn't stop him from getting a soft lead in a race where there doesn't appear to be a lot of pace." Strongly-backed yesterday with betchoice.com was Wonderful World (trained by Bart Cummings), trimmed in from $7 early in the morning to $5.50 after "he worked the house down with blinkers." However Morrissey doesn't believe Wonderful World can give Due Sasso a start & run him down, & selects Satin Robes & Miss Finland for the minor placings. The full betchoice.com market this morning is: $5.50 Wonderful World; $6.50 Due Sasso & Satin Robes; $7 Nediym's Glow & Miss Finland; $13 Snort; $15 My Only Hope & Personify; $17 Nadeem; $21 Gait & Global Start; $26 Montfort; $34 Swinging Bachelor; $51 Royal Pericles.

Due Sasso Wins Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G)

Monday, 13th February 2006

Ill-fated former Durham Lodge stallion Scenic (Sadler's Wells-Idyllic, by Foolish Pleasure) added a juvenile black-type success when the colt Due Sasso (Scenic-Scarlet Bird, by Rubiton) remained undefeated with a 2-lengths victory in the $125,000 Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for 2YO colts & geldings at Caulfield. Due Sasso (ridden by Nash Rawiller for trainer Brian Mayfield-Smith) defeated fellow colts Wonderful World (Agnes World-Success Tale, by Success Express) & Swinging Bachelor (Royal Academy-Campbell Fever, by Bluebird). Due Sasso (a $240,000 yearling at the 2005 Magic Millions Adelaide Sale) now has 2 wins from 2 starts for $87,800 earnings.
