Queensland's Burwood Stud-based dual Gr3-winning 9YO freshman stallion Collate (Catbird-Calfree, by Canny Lad) recorded his 1st winner when 2YO filly Callan Park (Collate-Royalties, by King Of Kings) scored over 1400m at Eagle Farm in Brisbane for trainer Steven O'Dea. Callan Park was a $7,000 yearling at the 2010 Magic Millions Gold Coast Sale. Her sire won the 2006 Gr3 Frederick Clissold Stakes (1200m) at Randwick & 2005 Gr3 Cameron Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle.

His ill-fated sire Moon Rocket (Zabeel-Skyrocket, by Danehill) was a winning 2YO in Japan & a half-brother to stakes-winning Meteor Burst from the stakes-winning mare Skyrocket (a half-sister to Gr3-placed Belle Bellotto). He is also closely related to multiple Gr1-winner Dance Hero. Moon Rocket only had 86 foals from 3 crops, but from these he sired 2 multiple stakes-winners & 34 winners from only 54 to race. Dusty Moon will stand for a fee of $2,200.

Canning Downs Buys Dalray Melb Cup For $86k
Principals John Barnes & Joy Mackay at Queensland’s Darling Downs-based Canning Downs have paid $86,400 at auction to buy the 1952 Melbourne Cup won by Dalray (Baloch-Broiveine) who began his stud career at Canning Downs in 1954 following an unsuccessful season at another stud. Dalray was initially leased by prominent owner C.E.Barnes, who purchased Dalray after he supervised the horse to satisfactorily cover mares. One of Dalray’s best-performed progeny was the stayer Tails (born in 1965) which was bred & raced by Barnes & also went on to stand at Canning Downs. Joy Mackay noted: “Dalray still features in the pedigrees of some of our breeding stock, including stakes-winner Royal Mask & Gr2-winner Masked Assassin.”
