Demerit To Stand At Taunton Vale Stud
In Australia, Kent & Nina Johnston’s WA Dardanup-based Taunton Vale Stud has secured Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude-winner Demerit (Lonhro-Shame, by Scenic) for stud duty. The deal was brokered by Belmont Bloodstock Agency. A lightly-raced son of former world champion miler Lonhro (currently leading the 2010-11 General Sires Premiership), Demerit was runner-up to champion Black Caviar on debut in the Listed Blue Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Cauflield. He won his next 2 starts including the Gr3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) where he defeated 3 subsequent Gr1 stars in Trusting, Manhattan Rain & Starspangledbanner. Starting favourite in the Gr1 Coolmore Stakes (1200m) at Flemington, Demerit was beaten just 1.3 lengths by Headway. Demerit retires with 2 wins & 5 placings (also including the Gr2 Canterbury Stakes over 1300m at Rosehill, Gr3 Rainbow Foundation Stakes over 1500m at Sandown & Gr3 Chatham Stakes 1400m at Flemington) from 13 starts for $260,400 earnings. Of his 13 starts, 11 were in Group or Listed races. His trainer Peter Snowden commented: “At the peak of his career we thought he was as good a colt as Denman. He was a genuine Gr1 horse, but the cards didn’t quite fall his way and he was plagued by unsuitable wet tracks for the second half of his racing career. As a son of Lonhro, Demerit must be considered an outstanding prospect at stud.” Demerit’s dam is the Scenic mare Shame, who won both the Gr1 QTC Sires Produce Stakes as a 2YO & Gr1 VATC Thousand Guineas as a 3YO, and placed a further 7 times in Gr1 races. A 3/4-brother to multiple Gr1-placed Evander, Demerit will stand at Taunton Vale for a fee of $6,600.

Last season he covered over 80 mares at Taunton Vale near Bunbury & is standing again this season for $4,400.
Roman Time Wins Karrakatta Plate
Ill-fated former Western Australia-based Alwyn Park Stud shuttler Danetime (Danehill-Allegheny River, by Lear Fan) added a juvenile group success when gelded son Roman Time (Danetime-True Roman, by Is It True) scored by a neck in the $500,000 Gr2 Karrakatta Plate (1200m) for 2YOs at Ascot. Roman Time (ridden by William Pike for trainer Fred Kersley) defeated fellow gelding Scenic Blast (Scenic-Daughter's Charm, by Delgado) & previously unbeaten favoured filly Jestatune (Rory's Jester-Umatune, by Umatilla). Roman Time (a $44,000 yearling at the 2006 Magic Millions Perth Premier Sale) now has 2 wins & 3 placings (including February's Listed Supremacy Stakes over 1100m at Ascot) from 8 starts for $355,000 earnings. Meanwhile his 9YO dam True Roman is in-foal to WA's Taunton Vale sire Bearcat (Danehill-Fitting, by Marscay) who covered over 80 mares last season & is a full-brother to Gr1 Golden Slipper winner Catbird; the "resulting foal will be a 3/4 brother to Roman Time," noted breednet.com.au.
