Golden Snake and Best Choice To Stand At Ridgeview Park
In Victorian breeding news, two well credentialled stallions in 4-time Gr1-winning stallion Golden Snake (Danzig-Dubian, by High Line) and Best Choice (Redoute's Choice-Jade Tiara, by Bureaucracy), the regally bred half-brother to 9-time Gr1-winning multiple Champion HK Sprinter Silent Witness (El Moxie-Jade Tiara) have been relocated to Ridgeview Park Thoroughbred Stud (in conjunction with LP Stallions) for the 2013 breeding season. Previously standing on the Mornington Peninsula, the pair makes Ridgeview Park, north-east of Bendigo, their new home and already they have settled in beautifully at the 350 acre property formerly known as Sanctuary Lodge. A proven sire of quality performers, Golden Snake has been well represented by the sadly ill-fated Gr1 Railway Stakes winner Gilded Venom (Western Australian Horse Of The Year), as well as the outstanding Gr1 winning Italian mare Quiza Quiza Quiza. A regally bred son of Danzig and the Group One Champion Mare Dubian, Golden Snake is one of his dam's two multiple Gr1 winners, the other being English Champion 3YO Filly and European Champion Older Mare Sayyedati, a five times Gr1 winner. Also a member of the Danzig line, Best Choice is also a promising young stallion by a Champion Sire and garnered glowing praise from stud principals Phil & Fiona Sloanes: "He is such a nice horse... big through the chest and strong through the hindquarters and we just love his temperament." Retired to stud late last year, Best Choice is a son of the wonderful broodmare Jade Tiara, and drew this response from trainer Clarry Conners, "He was a pretty special horse... I've got a really, really big opinion of him."
Desert King To Stand At Lauriston Park
LP Stallions, in conjunction with Lauriston Park, have announced that multiple Gr1 producing stallion Desert King will make his North East stud debut this season. Becoming the first stallion to stand at Chris & Kathie Bakker's Creighton's Creek property near Euroa, Desert King will offer the prolific breeding region the option of accessing the sire of triple Gr1-winning legend Makybe Diva and 6-time Gr1 winner Desert War. LP Stallions' Julie Nairn enthused, "I am thrilled that Desert King has found such a lovely new home... He is in amazing condition at the moment and we continue to be impressed by him – as I am sure everyone who calls in to Lauriston Park will be." Chris Bakker added, "We are looking forward to showing him off... He is such a lovely horse... I can see, looking at him, from where such horses as Makybe Diva and Desert War inherited their amazing constitutions!" Desert King is an extremely versatile stallion whose 26 stakes-winners have been successful at a variety of distances between 1000m and 4023m. Boasting progeny earnings in excess of $66 million, Desert King is a truly international stallion having been represented by winners in over 20 different countries. His trio of Gr1 Northern Hemisphere winners include Mr Dinos, Chelsea Rose and Darsalam, and as the sire of six Gr1 winners Desert King shares the title with fellow Danehill stallion Danzero as the most prolific Gr1 stallion currently standing in Victoria. Bakker noted, "There are not many stallions in Victoria who have sired a champion, and at a fee of $6,600 Desert King is great value – a proven high class stallion who is highly accessible."

Gr1 Winner Eagle Falls Euthanased
In a blow to Australia's upper echelon sprint racing circuit, Gr1 Oakleigh Plate winner Eagle Falls (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King) had to euthanased at trainer David Hayes' Euroa property yesterday morning following a severe sesamoid injury during trackwork, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Eagle Falls, a 7YO son of former 6-time Chilean Champion Sire Hussonet (Mr Prospector-Sacahuista, by Raja Baba) who relocated from Arrowfield Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley to stand the last Australian breeding season at Cornerstone Stud, competed at the top level across multiple seasons and captured, in addition to the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate, the Gr2 Salinger Stakes and Gr3 Rubiton Stakes. He also finished runner-up in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap and Gr2 Alister Clark Stakes and 3rd in the Gr1 Manikato Stakes. His career of 37 starts netted 8 wins and 3 placings for $1.078 million in earnings. Hayes lamented, "He smashed his sesamoid while galloping and we had to put him down for humane reasons… It's a terrible shame because he was very close to being retired… It's not as if he was a young horse but he had never shown any weakness in that area before – it's just one of those sad things that happens in racing."

2011 World Rankings: Americain Top Stayer

For the 2nd successive year, the highest-rated performance in a race greater than 2700m was produced in the Melbourne Cup, with 7YO entire Americain (Lomitas-Danedrop, by Danehill) rated at 123 for finishing 4th with 58kg, just 1.25-lengths behind the winning 5YO entire Dunaden (Nicobar-La Marlia, by Kaldounevees) who carried 54.5kg under the handicap conditions of the race. Americain's performance was rated superior to 3YO colt Orfevre (Stay Gold-Oriental Art, by Mejiro Mc Queen) who rate 122 in winning the Japanese St Leger, 3YO colt Masked Marvel (Montjeu-Waldmark, by Mark Of Esteem) on 121 for winning the English St Leger & 5YO entire Fame And Glory (Montjeu-Gryada, by Shirley Heights) also on 121 for his victory in the Ascot Gold Cup. Australia’s representative on the WTR Committee Greg Carpenter noted: “In winning the Melbourne Cup, Dunaden achieved a rating of 118, the 5th best performance in a staying race in 2011. The reason Americain rated considerably higher than Dunaden is because he conceded his rival 3.5kg, which equates to about 6-lengths over 3200m. In finishing only 1.25-lengths from Dunaden, Americain ran to a considerably higher rating & produced one of the best staying performances on the world stage in the last decade.” Only champion mare Makybe Diva (Desert King-Tugela, by Riverman) has achieved a higher rating in a staying race, when she was assigned 124 for carrying 58kg to victory in winning the Melbourne Cup for an historic 3rd time in 2005. Japanese champion Deep Impact also achieved a rating of 123 in winning the 2006 Tenno Sho (Spring) at 3200m.

Shinn stressed it was the only time he bet on a different runner when he was riding in the same race, claiming: "My family brought me up to do the right thing & that is why I am disappointed & embarrassed. Even though I have gambled, I've always done my best (on the racetrack)." Robl maintained he "never backed a horse he was riding against". But he admitted placing bets on horses he rode, including $1,500 on the Clarry Conners-trained Best Choice, which won on debut at Canterbury on September 8. He noted: "I had been spruiking the horse for 6 months." The biggest bet revealed during the inquiry was $10,000 (which Robl & Shinn shared) on Aussie Crawl, which won a Muswellbrook maiden by almost 5-lengths on August 27.

Hayes & Begg Prepare Aust Runners In Dubai
In Dubai, Australian trainers David Hayes (Eagle Falls) & Graeme Begg (All Silent) have arrived to finalise preparations for their entries in Saturday's World Cup program at Meydan.
- Hayes-trained 4YO gelding Eagle Falls (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King) has drawn barrier 2 in the US$2 million Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m on tapeta). Eagle Falls (who last start finished 2nd in the Gr1 Newmarket Handicap over 1200m at Flemington on March 6 & arrived in Dubai last Thursday) galloped yesterday morning on the all-weather track at Meydan & Hayes said his horse did not need a lot of work leading up to Saturday, noting: "I'm happy with his condition & this morning he just went over 5 furlongs (1000m) & home the last 2 (400m) in about 24 (seconds)." Although Eagle Falls has never raced on an all-weather track, he said he has worked on artificial surfaces in Melbourne & at his Lindsay Park stables "without any problems. That's why we were happy to pick the Golden Shaheen rather than the new race (the Al Quoz Sprint on turf) for him." Hayes added he was "confident" Eagle Falls would run well on Saturday & would be "disappointed" if he did not finish "somewhere in the money. He's got a much better chance than my last runner here Niconero & he finished an unlucky 5th in the Gr1 Duty Free last year against one of the best fields in years." After the Dubai Golden Shaheen, Eagle Falls will be heading to Singapore for the Gr1 Krisflyer Sprint at Kranje in May.
- Begg-trained 6YO gelding All Silent (Belong To Me-Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) has drawn barrier 4 in the US$1 million Gr3 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m on turf). Begg (who arrived in Dubai yesterday with his father & former leading Sydney trainer Neville) said All Silent can be "a bit of a dunce on the training track", which explained the trainer's reluctance "to work him up the straight in front of the huge new grandstand" at Meydan as he winds up his preparation for Saturday. Begg noted: "I know he's a straight track specialist, but I think I'd rather work him around the turn tomorrow (Wednesday) because there's too much work going on along the straight to distract him." All Silent will gallop over 1000m with track rider Sean Murphy in the saddle. Race jockey Corey Brown is not arriving in Dubai until Thursday. All Silent will continue on to England for the Royal Ascot meeting if he runs well on Saturday.
Aust Entries Prepare For Dubai World Cup Races
Australian gallopers All Silent & Eagle Falls have settled in at Meydan's International Stables in preparation for the 2 feature sprints at Saturday's Dubai World Cup meeting. They will both be ridden by Australian jockey Corey Brown (who familiarised himself with the track when competing in the recent Meydan Masters Challenge).
- Gr1-winning 6YO gelding All Silent (Belong To Me-Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) will contest the US$1 million Gr3 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m on turf). Trainer Graeme Begg is due to arrive in Dubai today & will oversee All Silent's 1st serious gallop on Wednesday. If All Silent runs well in Dubai, he is likely to continue on to England for the Royal Ascot meeting in June.
- 4YO gelding Eagle Falls (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King) will contest the US$2 million Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m on tapeta). He is being looked after by Lizzy Jelfs until trainer David Hayes arrives later in the week.
Brown To Ride All Silent In Dubai Sprint
Trainer Graeme Begg announced Corey Brown will ride Gr1-winning 6YO gelding All Silent (Belong To Me-Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) in the US$1 million Gr3 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m on turf) on the Dubai World Cup program at Meydan on March 27. All Silent leaves for Dubai today & Begg told racenet.com.au: "The fact Corey recently rode at Meydan was a big factor in our decision. (Brown competed in the Meydan Masters in Dubai earlier this month). He is a proven big-race jockey with good international experience." Brown (who won last year's Gr1 Melbourne Cup on Shocking) has also been booked to ride the other Australian contender on the Dubai World Cup card: the David Hayes-trained 4YO gelding Eagle Falls (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King) in the US$2 million Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m on tapeta).
2 Aust Contenders Confirmed For Dubai World Cup
The Board of the Dubai Racing Club announced the "likely fields" for the 2010 Dubai World Cup meeting on March 27, which include 2 Australian contenders. (All fields will be finalised at declaration stage on Monday March 22.)
- The David Hayes-trained 4YO gelding Eagle Falls (Hussonet-Desina, by Desert King) is listed for the US$2 million Gr1 Golden Shaheen (1200m on tapeta).
- And the Graeme Begg-trained 6YO gelding All Silent (Belong To Me-Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) is listed for the US$1 million Gr3 Al Quoz Sprint (1200m on turf).
