If ill-fated Oaklands Stud stallion Lion Hunter (Danehill-Pure Of Heart, by Godswalk) "keeps up the strike-rate he has enjoyed through the year over the last 2 months of 2006-07, he could eclipse what is believed to be the world record for the most wins in a racing year by a sire used in only 1 hemisphere," reported Brian Russell Media. That mark is credited to recently deceased Lyndhurst Stud sire Celestial Dancer (Godswalk-Oulanova, by Nijinsky II) who in the 1995-96 racing year "wracked up what is considered the current world record of 239 wins, 5 more than the previous best scores of 234 which he himself set the previous year & which he equalled in 1998-99". Lion Hunter "needs a further 25 wins by July 31 to beat Celestial Dancer's record". Aged 28 when he died at the Lyndhurst Stud this year, Celestial Dancer has had 921 starters (from 1,047 foals) for 694 winners (207 2YOs) of 2,747 races (plus 98 other place-getters) & earners of $26.1 million (including $23.7 million in Australia). He was leading Australian sire by winners & wins for 8 successive years.
