An impressively sound horse, Americain raced from age two till age seven, winning in every season. All up, he had 34 starts for 11 wins, 8 placings and over A$5.8million in earnings. Americain’s first three seasons were in France, where he was a 2YO winner over 1400m and third in a Listed race at his only two starts at that age. As a 3YO, he furnished into a Listed winner, and at 4, he improved again to win the Gr2 Prix Vicomtesse Vigier at Longchamp. Exported to Australia, Americain was an impressive winner of the Gr3 Geelong Cup before beating the very short favourite, So You Think, in the Melbourne Cup. He then went to Hong Kong for the international meeting, and ran a tough third in the Gr1 Vase. From there, the big stallion went back to France where he picked up a Listed race on his way back to defend his Cup.
Back in Australia, Americain won the Gr2 Drake International Cup on his Australian fresh up run, then ran fourth in the Melbourne Cup, before winning the Gr2 Zipping Classic. Over the autumn, Americain placed in the Australian Cup and BMW. As a 7YO, Americain ran fourth in the Gr1 Caulfield Cup in his Australian fresh up performance and was retired after the Melbourne Cup.
Breeders in Victoria embraced Americain as a sound, tough, Gr1 international performer and he has 113 live foals in his first crop. Americain is a son of Dynaformer – one of the best stallions in the USA with 131 stakes winners including 23 Gr1 winners. Americain is out of Gr2 winner America (by Arazi) who has left six winners, four of which are stakes performers. America is a half sister to Gr2 winner Majorien who was ranked third best 2YO in Europe in 1996, and this is the family of several tough stakes horses across Europe and America.
His first weanlings were very well received, with 8 selling for an average of $31,700. Americain has 28 yearlings entered in the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
