(Leroidesanimaux – Dalicia, by Acatenango)
Stood 2013 at Arrowfield Stud for $38,500
Animal Kingdom made history by winning America’s premier race for 3YOs, the Gr1 Kentucky Derby, at only his fifth start, and his first try on dirt. In the Gr1 Breeders’ Cup Turf Mile as a 4YO, he ran second to two-time Horse of the Year Wise Dan in 1:31.78, and was then sent to the UAE for the Gr1 Dubai World Cup. Animal Kingdom confirmed his class, toughness and versatility by winning the world’s richest race, beating globetrotting Red Cadeaux. Crowned US Champion 3YO Colt, Animal Kingdom backed that up as an older horse by topping the 2013 World Thoroughbred Rankings (Intermediate) and finishing his career with earnings in excess of US $8million.
His pedigree is an outcross to most Australian pedigrees, a good match for our Danehill-heavy lines. Animal Kingdom’s sire Leroidesanimaux (which means ‘The King of Animals’) was a triple Gr1-winning miler in America and crowned Champion Grass Male in USA in 2005. He is out of a half-sister to the great broodmare Hasili, dam of four Gr1 winners and champion sire Dansili – all by Danehill.
Animal Kingdom’s dam Dalicia is a Gr3 winner over 2000m and she is out of a winning daughter of German Champion 2YO Filly Diasprina, herself dam of two Champions: Diacada was the Joint Top Rated 3YO in Germany and is the dam of two stakeswinners; and Desidera was crowned Champion 2YO Filly in Germany, emulating her mother, and is the dam of four stakes horses.
Animal Kingdom has 77 live foals in his first crop and 8 of them are entered at the 2016 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale. Arrowfield Stud has another 8 going to Easter, and 4 to Melbourne Premier.
