JABALI (AUS)(Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings)
Clear Mountain Fairview, Qld. Fee: $4,950

Jabali Overview

An explosive 2YO – he was the second highest rated juvenile of his year – and Group-winning 3YO, JABALI is the ideal stallion for Queensland breeders looking to capitalise on the lucrative QTIS bonuses. His remarkable racetrack performance speaks for itself and, without a doubt, will be inherited by his progeny. These highlight include:

Won the Gr2 Queensland Guineas (a race also won by sires SIZZLING, ROTHESAY, TURFFONTEIN etc.)

Outstanding 2YO record: runner-up to EARTHQUAKE in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes and runner-up to Gr2 winner RUBRICK in the Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude. This race gave Exceed and Excel a Gr1 quinella, and Earthquake went on to be the Golden Slipper favourite, going down to Mossfun on a heavy track. The juvenile form around Earthquake and Jabali is strong, and thus is a good guide to his ability in that realm.

13 of his 17 starts were at black type level, and his trainer Mick Price enthused, “He was an explosive 2YO who took his speed and stamina out to a mile to win a Guineas as a 3YO."

Jabali is by Champion Australian Sire and tremendous speed influence EXCEED AND EXCEL (142 stakes winners and more than $149.5 million in progeny earnings) whose sire-sons include HELMET, REWARD FOR EFFORT and EXCELEBRATION. He is from a stakes placed daughter of multiple Gr2 winner LOVE OF MARY and closely related to Hong Kong’s Champion Sprinter SACRED KINGDOM.

  • Jabali Exciting Acquisition For Clear Mountain Fairview

    Tue, 7 Aug 2018

Queensland's Clear Mountain Fairview is excited by the interest shown in new 2018 sire recruit Jabali (Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings). Having stood his first two seasons at the Queensland base of Sun Stud (which has since consolidated its operations in Victoria only), Jabali offers breeders a bona-fide opportunity to breed a serious prospect for the rich juvenile features. The second highest-rated 2YO of his year (he was runner-up in the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes), Jabali trained on as a 3YO to land the Gr2 Queensland Guineas over a mile at Doomben. Throwing lovely foals and by superbly credentialled stallion Exceed and Excel, his dam is a daughter of Gr1-performed multiple Group winner Love of Mary. This is the immediate family of 4-times Champion Hong Kong Sprinter Sacred Kingdom and Gr1 ATC Champagne Stakes-placed Equator. Purchased by Mick Price Racing for $220,000 at the 2013 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Kornong Stud, Jabali's 2018 fee is $4,950.

  • Sun Stud Announce 2017 Fees

    Mon, 1 May 2017

Sun Stud has announced the 2017 service fees for its Victorian and Queensland rosters, including the introductory fee for multiple Gr1 winner Palentino. Featuring 12 stallions - seven in Victoria and five in Queensland - Palentino joins the line-up at a fee of $17,600, while in other exciting news, proven speed source, Statue of Liberty, sire of Saturday's Listed Thoroughbred Club 50th Stakes winner Star Exhibit, will relocate to Queensland where he will stand at $7,700. "Sun Stud is gearing up for another busy season," Sun Stud's Sales & Nominations Manager, Phil Marshall points out. "Naturally, there's plenty of interest already in Palentino which is hardly surprising - he won two Group Ones and a Group Two over the mile at Flemington and defeated some of Australia's best performers including horses like Black Heart Bart." He added: "The re-location of Statue of Liberty is also an interesting development and sure to be welcomed by Queensland breeders. His brilliant sprinter, Hay List, was a Group winner in Brisbane and finished second to Black Caviar in the BTC Cup. Statue of Liberty will stand at $7,700, alongside Black Caviar's sire, Bel Esprit, who is leading sire in Queensland by earnings and winners and is exceptional value at $12,100 in 2017." Sun Stud's Managing Director, Danielle Cheng commented: "We're very happy with our line-up for 2017. I believe our stallions are very competitively priced in what is an extremely buoyant market and the roster really does offer something for all breeders." Sun Stud's roster is:

    Victoria

    • Magnus (Flying Spur) - $22,000
    • Fiorente (Monsun) - $17,600
    • Palentino (Teofilo) *NEW* - $17,600
    • Fighting Sun (Northern Meteor) - $13,750
    • Moshe (Bel Esprit) - $7,700
    • Ready For Victory (More Than Ready) - $6,660
    • Squamosa (Not A Single Doubt) - $6,600

    Queensland

    • Bel Esprit (Royal Academy) - $12,100
    • Love Conquers All (Mossman) - $12,100
    • Statue of Liberty (Storm Cat) - $7,700
    • Jabali (Exceed And Excel) - $4,950
    • Instinction (Exceed And Excel) - $3,850
  • Sun Stud Announces Launch Of Exciting 'Sun Club' Initiative

    Tue, 17 May 2016

Leading stallion operation, Sun Stud, has announced the introduction of the 'Sun Club', an exciting opportunity for broodmare owners to secure lifetime breeding rights in two of the Stud's promising young sires - Ready For Victory and Jabali. Sales & Nominations Manager, Mark Lindsay explained the details of the initiative: "The premise for the Sun Club is quite simple, but the benefits have the potential to reward our club members long term," Lindsay points out. "Basically, Sun Club members send one mare in 2016 to Ready For Victory for $16,500 (2016 Service Fee: $9,900 + $6,600 VOBIS SIRES' scheme/ Sun Club Membership) or to Jabali for $9,900 (2016 Service Fee: $7,700 + $2,200 Sun Club Membership)," Lindsay said. "Payment is not due until you actually have a foal on the ground, which works along similar lines to the Live Foal Payment we have on all Sun Stud stallions." He added: "You then are open to send a mare for FREE in 2017, and a mare in 2018 for FREE. Any member that fills the three nominations receives a lifetime breeding right to that stallion for the remainder of his stud career." The Sun Club concept has stemmed from the success of stallions at stud such as Encosta De Lago, Street Boss and Not A Single Doubt. Sun Stud (formerly Eliza Park International) launched the careers of Love Conquers All, currently Australia's Leading First Season Sire; Moshe, Victoria's Leading First Season Sire and; Written Tycoon, who was the first Victorian-based stallion to win a national premiership in decades when crowned Australia's Champion First Season Sire. His introductory fee? $8,250! Under the Sun Club, breeders can access a potential champion at a set fee and not be 'penalised' when fees increase commensurate with performance. And both Ready For Victory and Jabali will be given every opportunity to succeed. Ready For Victory is an ideal fit for Victoria - he won a stakes race on debut as a 2YO at Flemington and then ran a very unlucky fourth in the Golden Slipper at his second start, while the Queensland bound, Jabali, was the second highest rated 2YO colt, finishing second in the Blue Diamond, before winning the Queensland Guineas at three.

  • Sun Stud Announces New Sun Club

    Mon, 16 May 2016

Sun Stud has announced the introduction of the Sun Club, an exciting opportunity for broodmare owners to secure lifetime breeding rights in two of the Stud’s promising sires - Ready For Victory and Jabali, both of which were very high-class 2YOs. Sales & Nominations Manager, Mark Lindsay released details of the initiative, saying: “The premise for the Sun Club is quite simple, but the benefits have the potential to reward our club members long term,” Essentially, Sun Club members send one mare in 2016 to Ready For Victory for $16,500 (2016 Service Fee: $9,900 + $6,600 VOBIS SIRES’ scheme/Sun Club Membership) or to Jabali for $9,900 (2016 Service Fee: $7,700 + $2,200 Sun Club Membership).“Payment is not due until you actually have a foal on the ground, which works along similar lines to the Live Foal Payment we have on all Sun Stud stallions.” Lindsay noted, “You then are open to send a mare for free in 2017, and a mare in 2018 for free." The major incentive is that any member that fills the three nominations receives a lifetime breeding right to that stallion for the remainder of his stud career. Ready For Victory and Jabali will be represented in the 2016 Freshman Sires Feature, published later this week.

  • Sun Stud Announces 2016 Stud Fees

    Fri, 29 Apr 2016

Buoyed by the addition of exciting new stallions in Ready For Victory and Jabali, Sun Stud has announced 2016 stallion fees for both its Victorian and Queensland farms. Standing eight stallions at the Kerrie operation in Victoria and five at the Innisplain  complex in Queensland, Sun Stud’s Managing Director, Danielle Cheng, is excited about the coming season, commenting, “It’s a tremendous roster … an ideal blend of proven, ‘poised’ and promising. “ All Sun Stallions stand on a live foal basis. The respective State fees (GST inclusive) for Sun Stud’s 2016 roster are:

    Victoria

  • Ready For Victory & Jabali Join Sun Stud

    Wed, 27 Apr 2016

Sun Stud (formerly Eliza Park International) has announced the addition of two exciting stallions in Ready For Victory and Jabali to its already formidable rosters in Victoria and Queensland. A stakes winner on debut at two and a son of More Than Ready, Ready For Victory will stand at Sun Stud’s Victorian farm, while Group Two winning 3YO, Jabali (by Exceed And Excel), heads to Sun’s Queensland division. “Sun Stud is very happy to be standing Ready For Victory and Jabali in 2016,” Sun Stud’s Managing Director, Danielle Cheng, enthused. “The line-ups in both states are really doing the job and the inclusion of these two outstandingly-bred and well-performed stallions will only accentuate the existing quality at both farms. “Ready For Victory was an explosive 2YO who won a stakes race on debut - so well in fact that Mick (Price) suggested we put him in the Golden Slipper at only his second start. He ran fourth but was very unlucky and jockey Nicholas Hall believes the colt’s inexperience cost him the race." Cheng added: "Ready For Victory also raced on at three finishing second in the Group Three HDF McNeil Stakes, third in the Group Two Danehill and third behind Press Statement (now standing at $27,500) in the Group One Caulfield Guineas. Ready For Victory is closely related to both Champion 2YO, Meurice and highly successful sire, Rubiton, and will be a perfect fit for Victoria.” Leading trainer, Mick Price, believes racing fans didn’t get to see the best of Ready For Victory: “Sure, he was a terrific 2YO … should have won the Slipper … but he was always going to be the type that would mature into a versatile three and four year old." Price added : "Unfortunately, he suffered an injury in the (Caulfield) Guineas and we just couldn’t get him right after that. I just hope he throws them with the same type and temperament, because I know I’ll be lining up to get them.” Sun Stud also acknowledged that Jabali would be popular in either state, but eventually decided that Queensland was the right fit. “Jabali is a real eye-catcher and is likely to be well supported by Queensland breeders, especially given his resounding victory in the last year’s Queensland Guineas,” Danielle Cheng adds. “Importantly, Jabali was an exceptional 2YO with stakes seconds at his first two starts before running second in the Group One Blue Diamond."

Ready For Victory will stand at a fee of $9,900 inc. GST

Jabali’s introductory fee is $7,700 inc. GST.

As with all Sun Stud stallions, a Live Foal Payment applies to both Ready For Victory and Jabali.

  • Jabali Wins Gr2 Queensland Guineas

    Tue, 9 Jun 2015

At Doomben in Queensland, Darley's former Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) added a Group success when 3YO colt Jabali (Exceed and Excel - Balalaika, by King of Kings) finally shed his maiden status when scoring by 1.3-lengths for trainer Mick Price in the $400,000 Gr2 Queensland Guineas (1600m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colt Bachman (All American-Ain't Seen Nothin', by Nothin' Leica Dane) & 3YO gelding Merion (O'Reilly-Sapphire Belle, by Danske). The talented Jabali finally got his career off the mark taking his record to 1 win and 5 placings (including the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes) from 14 starts for $513,600 earnings. Jabali was purchased by Mick Price Racing for $220,000 at the 2013 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale from the draft of Kornong Stud.

  • Price Colts Set For Vain Stakes Showdown

    Thu, 24 Jul 2014

Talented stable-mates Jabali (Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings) and Cornrow (Duporth-Baby Corn, by Exceed and Excel) are set to clash for the first time this spring when they resume in the Gr3 Vain Stakes (1100m) at Caulfield on 16 August, reports racingvictoria.net.au. The Mick Price-trained colts will then be aimed towards the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill in September and the Caulfield Guineas (1600m) in October, both of which carry Gr1 status and $1 million in prize-money. "The Golden Rose and the Caulfield Guineas are the two main races I want to run them in to try and make stallions out of them both. They'll both be entered for the Cox Plate as well," said Price. "Jabali is probably a bit of a quicker horse than Cornrow at this stage which is what we saw in the Blue Diamond, but they've both made physical improvement." He added, "Cornrow is a big, strong animal now and has put on around 30 kilos. He'll trial next Tuesday and I'm allowing for him to have two trials before he goes to the races." Both Jabali and Cornrow have proven themselves at Gr1 level, with the pair finishing second and third respectively behind Earthquake in the Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) in February, while Cornrow also grabbed third behind Peggy Jean in the Gr1 Sires Produce Stakes (1400m) in Sydney.

  • Golden Slipper Barrier Draw

    Wed, 2 Apr 2014

Glamour filly Earthquake has drifted slightly in betting after drawing barrier 13 for Saturday's $3.5 million Gr1 Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens, reports dailytelegraph.com.au. Earthquake, who is yet to meet defeat in four career outings, will have to create history as no 2YO has ever won the Slipper from barrier 13. However, with the likely omission of first emergency Scratch Me Lucky, Earthquake will move into barrier 12 on race day. Earthquake eased from $2.10 to $2.30 but is still a dominant favourite with her nearest market rival, Mossfun, available at odds of $6. Earthquake's Darley stable-mate Ghibellines, an impressive winner of the Gr2 Todman Stakes, occupies the third line of betting at $9.50, while Bring Me The Maid, winner of Saturday's Gr2 Magic Night Stakes, & Magic Millions Classic winner Encumbered round out the top five fancies at $13.

  • Victorian Stud Farm Buys Share Of Jabali

    Fri, 21 Mar 2014

Eliza Park International has purchased a majority shareholding in exciting 2YO colt Jabali (Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings). Jabali, runner-up to star filly Earthquake in the Blue Diamond Stakes last month, will carry the Eliza Park International colours for the first time on Saturday when he lines up in the G2 Todman Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill, the traditional Golden Slipper prep race for juvenile males. Jabali looked primed for Saturday's assignment when scoring an impressive barrier trial win at Randwick on Monday, in the fastest time of the morning. Rated Australia's third best 2YO by Timeform, Jabali has the all the attributes to develop into a top-line performer according to trainer Mick Price. "He (Jabali) has a ton of natural ability and the makings of an exceptional 3YO," Price said. By Darley's reigning Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel, Jabali is out of the stakes-placed mare Balalaika, a daughter of dual Gr2 winner Love Of Mary (Zeditave-Morlin Maid, by Sir Tristram). Love Of Mary is a full-sister to Courtroom Sweetie, the dam of three-time Gr1-winning champion Hong Kong sprinter Sacred Kingdom.

  • Earthquake Wins Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes

    Mon, 24 Feb 2014

At Caulfield, Darley's incumbent Champion Australian Sire Exceed And Excel (Danehill-Patrona, by Lomond) celebrated a Gr1 quinella when exceptional 2YO filly Earthquake (Exceed and Excel-Cataclysm, by Marauding) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Peter Snowden in the $1 million Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) for 2YOs, over 2YO colts Jabali (Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings) & Cornrow (Duporth-Baby Corn, by Exceed and Excel). The undefeated Earthquake showed that her talent knows no bounds with this brilliant Gr1 victory that took her record to 3 wins (including the last-start Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies) from 3 starts for $774,500 earnings. Peter Snowden confirmed post-race that the filly would now target the world's richest 2YO race, the Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on 5 April. "She pricked her ears and went to them, and I thought 'Oh my God'...she's special." When asked about the Golden Slipper Snowden said, "That's always been the plan. But she has to pull up well first. If she pulls up well then she's had the perfect preparation for the Golden Slipper." He added, "I never thought I'd get another Sepoy again, and I may not. This filly isn't him yet, but she's doing similar things to what he did. That was just the third start of her life today and she was just super." Darley Australia boss Henry Plumptre echoed Snowden's sentiments. "She is a very special filly. I'm not sure that we had the same feeling about her as we did about Sepoy [leading into the race], but she looks like she could be anything. She's bigger than Sepoy, she's got more scope, and she sort of half looks like she doesn't know what she's doing - which is a great thing for a two-year-old."

  • Rubick Wins Gr3 Blue Diamond Colts & Geldings Prelude

    Mon, 10 Feb 2014

At Caulfield, Coolmore's former dual Champion Australian Sire Encosta De Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a group success when star 2YO colt Rubick (Encosta de Lago-Sliding Cube, by Rock of Gibraltar) scored by 1-length for trainer Gerald Ryan in the $150,000 Gr3 Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for colts and geldings, over fellow colts Jabali (Exceed and Excel-Balalaika, by King of Kings) & Chivalry (Street Cry-World Peace, by Danehill). This was the first stakes victory for the cleverly-named Rubick who took his record to 2 wins from 2 starts for $159,500 earnings. The beautifully bred Rubick is by Encosta de Lago from Gr3 winner Sliding Cube, a three-quarter sister to champion sire Redoute's Choice, and was purchased by David Raphael for $460,000 at the 2013 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the draft of Vinery Stud.

  • Risen From Doubt Wins Listed Maribyrnong Trial Stakes

    Mon, 7 Oct 2013
