At Doomben racecourse in Queensland, Coolmore's former dual Champion Australian Sire Encosta De Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) celebrated an elite race success when 5YO Australian-bred mare English (Encosta De Lago-Court, by Anabaa) posted her first win in more than a year when unleashing her trademark late sprint to claim the $700,000 Gr1 Doomben 10,000 (1200m) for 3YO+, defeating Impending & Le Romain. English, a Newhaven Park homebred, improved her record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 All Aged Stakes, Gr2 Challenge Stakes -twice & Gr2 Reisling Stakes) & 5 placings (including the Gr1 Golden Slipper Stakes, Gr1 Galaxy Handiacp & Gr1 TJ Smith Stakes) from 25 starts for $3,441,071 in earnings. Co-trainer Adrian Bott said English would be aimed at the remaining feature Group 1 race in the winter as well as the $13 The Everest in Sydney later in the year. "She is entered for the Group One races here the Kingsford Smith, the Stradbroke and the Tatts Tiara. But we are also looking at getting her ready for The Everest in the Sydney spring," Bott told Sky Racing.
