At Doomben racecourse in Brisbane, Arrowfield Stud's multiple Champion Australian Sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) celebrated an elite race success when untapped 3YO Australian-bred colt The Autumn Sun (Redoute's Choice -Azmiyna, by Galileo) showed why his trainer Chris Waller holds him in such high regard when bounding to a narrow but decisive win in the $600,000 Gr1 J.J. Atkins Plate (1600m) for 2YOs, defeating stable-mate Zousain & Fundamentalist. Waller, who was celebrating his third JJ Atkins win, said both The Autumn Sun and Zousain would be spelled and aimed at the Melbourne carnival in the Spring. "This was only his third start and to see him win like that shows just how smart he is," Waller told Racing Queensland. "They'll both go for a break now and get ready for the spring. Zousain will be kept for shorter races while The Autumn Sun looks a real Caulfield Guineas horse." Purchased for $700,000 by Waller & Hermitage Thoroughbreds at the 2017 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud, The Autumn Sun is out of the unraced Galileo mare Azmiyna, a half-sister to the Aga Khan's ill-fated multiple Gr1 winner and former Brighthill Farm shuttler Azamour (Night Shift-Asmara, by Lear Fan). The Autumn Sun extended his unbeaten record to 3 wins from 3 starts for $491,971 in earnings.
