At Te Rapa in New Zealand, highly talented 7YO New Zealand-bred gelding Start Wondering (Eighth Wonder-Roseanbar, by Akbar) made a welcome return to the winner's circle when making it back-to-back wins in the $200,000 Gr1 BCD Group Sprint (1400m) for 3YO+, defeating former Hong Kong sprinters Packing Pins & Brilliant Shine. By beautifully bred stallion Eighth Wonder (Zabeel-Diamond Lover, by Sticks and Stones), Start Wondering advanced his record to 11 wins (including the Gr1 NRM Sprint, Gr1 Railway Stakes & Listed Sprint Handicap) and 6 placings (including the Gr1 Telegraph & Gr1 WFA Stakes) from 25 starts for $671,108 in earnings. "Any Group One win is special, but we weren't expecting it today," co-trainer Evan Rayner, who trains the gelding with his daughter JJ, told NZ Racing Desk. "It rained all the way up here and he's struck some terrible tracks this time around, but he handled it better than I thought at Auckland so we decided to run."
