Desert King Arrives At Lynden Park

Thursday, 1st September 2005

Meanwhile Victoria's Lynden Park shuttler Desert King (Danehill-Sabaah, by Nureyev) arrived at the Red Hill South stud just 24 hours before Australia's current champion Horse-Of-The-Year & dual Gr1 Melbourne Cup-winning 7YO mare Makybe Diva (Desert King-Tugela, by Riverman) returned from a 16-week spell & began her 2005 Spring Carnival campaign in spectacular fashion by coming from last into the straight for a 1st-up victory in the $200,000 weight-for-age Gr2 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield. Makybe Diva (who now has 12 wins & 6 placings in 32 starts for $9,253,685 prize-money) is just 1 of 5 individual Gr1 winners in the last 12 months sired by Desert King (who tallied 23 winners during August alone around the globe). In 2005 Desert King (sire of 22 stakes-winners overall) is enjoying his best ever year: since the start of January he has recorded over 100 individual winners of 133 races; they include stakes-winners Darsalam (German Gr1 Rheinland-Pokal der Sparkasse & Gr3 Barclay-Rennen), Lachlan River (Gr1 Queensland Derby), Basra (Gr2 Royal Stakes), Mango Mischief (Gr3 Daffodil Stakes), North Queen (Gr3 Walther Jacobs Stutenpreis), Chelsea Rose (Listed Silver Stakes), Alpacco (Listed German Derby Trial), Grand Opening (Listed Prix Melis) & Pretty Tough (Listed Prix la Moskowa).
