Heckle Sold To Sequel Stallions In Florida

Thursday, 1st September 2005

In Florida, JMJ Racing & the partnership of Becky Thomas & Lewis Lakin have purchased US Gr3-winning 4YO stallion Heckle (Hennessy-Bid Me Adieu, by Spectacular Bid) from Dogwood Stable to "stand the 2006 season at Thomas's Sequel Stallions in Ocala," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Heckle (a half-brother to Gr1 winner Spectacular Tide) equaled a 4.5-furlong track record at Keeneland in his career debut in April 2003 (running 51.04sec for a 12.5-lengths victory); he also scored a 3.25-lengths win over 5.5 furlongs in the Gr3 Tremont Stakes at Belmont Park that summer. Dogwood president Cot Campbell summed up: "Heckle could run a hole in the wind. He was a most attractive yearling, looked like speed & produced it early in his 2YO year. Any time you equal a Keeneland track record that has stood for 37 years at the distance of 4.5 furlongs, you scorch the earth." Overall he won 3 of 10 starts & earned US$155,862.
