Texas Day-2: US$132,000 Lemon Drop Kid Colt

Thursday, 1st September 2005

Car dealership operator Jerry Durant (brother of prominent Texas owner Tom Durant) paid top price of US$132,000 for a Texas-bred colt by Lemon Drop Kid (out of winning Gilded Time mare Salsa Stacy) during the 2nd session of the 2-day Fasig-Tipton Texas summer yearling sale at Lone Star Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The colt (consigned by Lane's End Texas as agent for Ed Few & Stonerside Stable) is from the 3rd crop of champion & Gr1 Belmont Stakes winner Lemon Drop Kid; his dam Salsa Stacy has also produced stakes-winning Mr Greeley gelding Philadelphia Jim. Durant summed up: "I was attracted to his physical appearance. He's going to stay in Texas. We'll start on him at the beginning of the year. I want to give him some time to grow."
