Champion Mare & Gr1-Producer Tristalove Dies
In the NSW Hunter Valley yesterday, 15-year-old Gr1-producer & former champion mare Tristalove (Sir Tristram-Diamond Lover, by Sticks And Stones) died in her paddock at Coolmore Stud, reported racenet.com.au. On the track Tristalove won both the 1993 Gr1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes & 1994 Gr1 SAJC Australasian Oaks (plus 4 Gr2s, a Gr3 & a Listed race) for an overall record of 11 wins & 5 placings in 26 starts & $767,640 prize-money; she was Champion 2YO on 1992-93 NZ Free Handicap & joint Top Filly of the Australasian 3YO Classification for 1993-94. As a broodmare she produced 2001 Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Viking Ruler, plus 2003 Gr2 AAMI Vase winner Kempinsky, stakes-winner Diamond Like & stakes-placed Chimera. Tristalove was due to foal in coming weeks to Encosta De Lago. Coolmore farm manager Peter O'Brien confirmed: "She died suddenly overnight in her paddock. She had an internal hemorrhage; it was instantaneous: the equivalent to a human suffering from a heart attack. It is just one of those shocking things. She is one of about 15-20 mares that have been here since we commenced our breeding operation on the property. We buried her in our graveyard alongside Rancher, Diamond Show & Bo Dapper." She left a Rock Of Gibraltar filly in 2004; & her son Viking Ruler (Danehill-Tristalove) is standing this season at Cambridge Stud in NZ, while another son Kempinsky (Danehill-Tristalove) is standing at Newlands Thoroughbreds in Victoria.
