Cambridge Keeps Tristalove-Rock Filly
Sir Patrick Hogan announced NZ's Cambridge Stud will retain the last foal from his stud's 15-year-old blue-blood Gr1-producer & former champion mare Tristalove (Sir Tristram-Diamond Lover, by Sticks And Stones) who died in her paddock at Coolmore Stud in the NSW Hunter Valley last week. Hogan confirmed: "We were looking forward to marketing the Rock Of Gibraltar filly at Karaka; however, now that we have lost Tristalove, that filly will be retained. It is our intention to apply for the name of this filly to be Lovetrista in memory of Tristalove. We were lucky to get 3 lovely fillies from Tristalove: 2 by Danehill & 1 by Rock Of Gibraltar. We are now looking forward to Diamond Lover (dam of Tristalove) to produce a living foal at the age of 23 years." On the track Tristalove won both the 1993 Gr1 AJC Sires Produce Stakes & 1994 Gr1 SAJC Australasian Oaks (plus 4 Gr2s, a Gr3 & a Listed race) for an overall record of 11 wins & 5 placings in 26 starts & $767,640 prize-money; she was Champion 2YO on 1992-93 NZ Free Handicap & joint Top Filly of the Australasian 3YO Classification for 1993-94. As a broodmare she produced 2001 Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes winner Viking Ruler, plus 2003 Gr2 AAMI Vase winner Kempinsky, stakes-winner Diamond Like & stakes-placed Chimera. Tristalove was due to foal in coming weeks to Encosta De Lago.
