Danehill Adds US Gr2 Winner

Monday, 5th September 2005

Former Coolmore shuttler & ill-fated multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added a major US graded success when 5YO millionaire mare Intercontinental (Danehill-Hasili, by Kahyasi) led most of the way to win the US$180,000 Gr2 Palomar Breeders' Cup Handicap (8.5 furlongs on turf) at Del Mar, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Intercontinental (ridden by Jerry Bailey for trainer Bobby Frankel) defeated multiple Gr1-winning French-bred 4YO mare Amorama (Sri Pekan-Tanzania, by Alzao) & multiple US Gr1-winner Ticker Tape (by Royal Applause). Bred in England by Juddmonte Farms, Intercontinental now has 11 wins (also including the Gr3 Royal Heroine Invitational Stakes over 1 mile on turf at Hollywood Park in early July, followed by 3rd in the Gr1 John Mabee Handicap over 9 furlongs on turf at Del Mar in late July) in 20 starts for US$1,253,263 earnings.
