Mnemosyne Wins Furious Stakes

Monday, 5th September 2005

Coolmore-based sire Encosta de Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added another stakes success when his Woodlands Stud-owned daughter Mnemosyne (Encosta de Lago-My Juliet, by Canny Lad) grabbed victory by a head (& made it 2 group wins in a fortnight) in the $130,000 Gr2 Furious Stakes (1400m) for 3YO fillies at Randwick. Mnemosyne (ridden by Darren Beadman for trainer John Hawkes) defeated Media (Gilded Time-Valourina, by Snippets) & Permissive (Snippets-In Confidence, by Chief's Crown). Mnemosyne (a $400,000 yearling at the 2004 Inglis Easter Sale) now has 3 wins (also including the Gr3 Silver Shadow Stakes over 1200m at Randwick on Aug 20) & 3 runner-ups in 8 starts for $548,000 prize-money. Mnemosyne has now won the initial 2 legs of the Sydney Spring Carnival Princess Series (Silver Shadow & Furious Stakes); the remaining 2 legs are the $140,000 Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens & $350,000 Gr1 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick, with a $200,000 bonus for a filly that wins all legs.
