NZ Stakes Star Rapid Kay Retired To Stud

Monday, 5th September 2005

The Mark Walker-trained 5YO mare & dual NZ stakes-winner Rapid Kay (by Towkay) has been retired to stud due to "a chipped knee", reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Owned by her breeder Little Avondale Stud at Masterton, Rapid Kay won 5 races (from 1300-1600m) in 20 starts & earned over NZ$100,000 prize-money. Her highlights included: black-type victories in both the Listed Slade Farm Canterbury Stakes (1600m) & Listed Taranaki Mason Appliances Stakes (1400m); Gr1 placings in the Waikato Draught Sprint (1400m) & Captain Cook Stakes (1600m); & Gr3 runner-ups in both the Desert Gold Stakes (1500m) & Highview Stakes (1200m). A decision on which stallion Rapid Kay "will be sent to is yet to be confirmed".
