Shania Dane Wins Tramway Handicap

Monday, 5th September 2005

Coolmore's former shuttler & ill-fated multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added another group success when 4YO mare Shania Dane (Danehill-Subterfuge, by Machiavellian) made it 3 wins in succession (& 2 successive stakes triumphs since resuming from a 19-week spell) by snatching victory by a half-neck in the $100,000 Gr3 Tramway Handicap (1400m) for 3YO fillies at Randwick. Shania Dane (ridden by Rod Quinn for trainer John Hawkes) defeated fellow 4YO mare Lotteria (Redoute's Choice-Rose Reward, by Sir Tristram) & 5YO gelding Utzon (Nothin' Leica Dane-Ivory Rose, by Gain Control). Shania Dane (a $470,000 yearling at the 2003 Inglis Easter sale) now has 5 wins (also including the weight-for-age Gr2 Premiere Stakes over 1200m) at Rosehill in new race record time on August 13, plus the Gr2 Phar Lap Stakes & Gr3 South Pacific) & 3 runner-ups (including the Gr2 Surround Stakes) in 10 starts for $488,625 prize-money.
