Warrsan Wins German Gr1 Baden

Monday, 5th September 2005

In Germany overnight, Australian jockey Kerrin McEvoy rode Darley Stud's multiple Gr1 winner Warrsan (Caerleon-Lucayan Princess, by High Line) to the 7YO's 2nd successive victory in the Gr1 Grosser Volkswagen Preis Von Baden (2400m) at Baden-Baden, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Warrsan ("aided by a tactically astute piece of riding by McEvoy") defeated Gonbarda (by Lando) & 5-time Gr1-winner Westerner (by Danehill); Godolphin's favourite & Melbourne Cup entrant Cherry Mix (who led for much of the race) finished 5th. Irish-bred Warrsan now has 4 Gr1 victories (also including the 2003 & 2004 editions of England's Gr1 Coronation Cup) among 9 career wins in 40 starts for trainer Clive Brittain (who said Warrsan will now be aimed at France's Gr1 Arc de Triomphe).
