Dual US Gr1 Winner Castledale Retired

US trainer Jeff Mullins "has been forced to retire" 4YO Irish-bred dual Gr1 winner Castledale (Peintre Celebre-Louju, by Silver Hawk) to stud with "recurring feet & ankle problems," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Castledale retires with 5 wins (including the Gr1 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile Stakes on May 30 at Hollywood Park & last year's Gr1 Santa Anita Derby) in 17 starts for US$864,423 earnings; following a last start 4th in the Gr1 Eddie Read Handicap at Del Mar on July 24, he had been preparing for both Canada's Gr1 Atto Mile on September 18 at Woodbine & US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile on October 29 at Belmont Park.
