Tuesday, 6th September 2005

In Ireland, 25-year-old multiple Gr1-winner & outstanding broodmare Flame Of Tara (Artaius-Welsh Flame, by Welsh Pageant) has been put down at Kilcarn Stud in County Meath "suffering the infirmities of old age", reported racingpost.co.uk. Flame Of Tara (pensioned at Kilcarn after foaling in 2002) won 8 races (including the Gr1 Coronation Stakes & Gr1 Pretty Polly Stakes). Then at stud she produced 13 surviving foals of racing age for 11 winners (5 stakes-winners). Her 2nd foal Salsabil (Sadler's Wells-Flame Of Tara) was sold as a yearling to Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum at Tattersalls for 440,000 guineas (A$1.144m); the filly won 5 Gr1 races (including the 1990 UK Oaks, UK 1000 Guineas & Irish Derby). She also produced Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes winner & sire Marju, plus Gr3 winners Danse Royale & Flame Of Athens, & Ribblesdale Stakes runner-up Nearctic Flame.
