War Emblem Breeder Nuckols Dies At 83

Prominent Kentucky horseman Charles Nuckols (who bred dual classic winner & 2002 US champion 3YO male War Emblem) died in Kentucky aged 83 from heart failure, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Nuckols bred dozens of stakes-winners, including: White Skies (champion sprinter of 1954); Decathlon (champion sprinter of 1956 & 1957); Typecast (champion older mare of 1972); Broadway Dancer (France's champion 2YO filly of 1974); Habitat (England's champion miler of 1969 & that leading sire of 1985); Hidden Lake (champion older mare of 1997); & Gr1 winners Wise Times & Soy Numero Uno. Nuckols also served as: a member of the US Jockey Club; past president of both the Thoroughbred Club Of America & the Thoroughbred Breeders Of Kentucky; director of Breeders' Cup; director & trustee of Keeneland Association; & a member of the Kentucky State Racing Commission.
