1st Foal For NZ Sire Eltawaasul

In New Zealand, Paul & Debbie Thistoll of Emerald Lodge Stud have announced the arrival of the 1st foal for resident sire Eltawaasul (Nureyev-Grand Falls, by Ogygian). The colt is out of At Talaq mare Laq Of Dignity, an unraced half-sister to dual Gr1 winner Dignity Dancer (by Zabeel), who won the Gr1 Australian Guineas & Gr1 Spring Champion Stakes. Eltawaasul (a US$220,000 weanling purchase by Shadwell Stud at the 1996 Keeneland November breeding stock sale) began his career in England, where he won 3 of 8 starts (plus 3rd in the 1998 Somerville Tattersalls Stakes at Newmarket). Transferred to the US, Eltawaasul won another 6 races (including the Manila Stakes at Meadowlands & Battlefield Stakes at Monmouth Park) to retire as a 7YO at the end of the 2003 season with 9 wins & 10 placings (including the Gr2 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct, Gr2 McKnight Handicap at Calder & Gr3 MacDiarmida Handicap at Gulfstream Park) in 41 starts for US$348,311 earnings. His dam Grand Falls is a daughter of multiple Gr1-winning Pitskelly mare Pitasia; & Eltawaasul is a full brother to Gr3 winner Toroca (who finished 3rd in both the 2001 Gr1 English 1000 Guineas & Gr1 Irish 1000 Guineas.
