Drug Dispute Affects Turfway Opening

Thursday, 8th September 2005

In the US overnight, "what was expected to be a grand opening gala event at Turfway Park with the unveiling of Polytrack for a thoroughbred meet in North America, had a pall cast over it by Kentucky horsemen, as trainers stabled at Churchill Downs & Churchill Trackside did not enter any horses for the opener," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. That's because the controversial new medication policy began at Turfway yesterday & "many Louisville-based horsemen chose to stay home". As a result, Turfway attracted just 75 entries for its opening-day card (down 37.5% from last year when trainers entered 120 horses).
