Webbey Warns On Asian Exodus

Racing NSW chief handicapper Mark Webbey (who announced this week he is leaving after 28 years to take up a post in Singapore) was asked by The Daily Telegraph: "What are some of the problems facing the NSW & Australian industry?" He replied bluntly: "My biggest fear is we will become the next New Zealand, given all our quality horses are being sold to the Asian market. Our bloodstock has been identified by the Asians, the prize-money is good overseas & some of our horses have started to succeed like Alinghi & Starcraft."
