Oratorio Wins Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes

Monday, 12th September 2005

Former Coolmore shuttler & ill-fated multiple champion sire Danehill (Danzig-Razyana, by His Majesty) added to his amazing international Gr1 record when his 3YO colt Oratorio (Danehill-Mahrah, by Vaguely Noble) followed his recent victory in England's Gr1 Eclipse Stakes (10 furlongs) at Sandown Park on July 2 with a follow-up win in the €1 million (A$1.6m) Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes (10 furlongs) at Leopardstown, reported racingpost.co.uk. Sue Magnier & Michael Tabor's Oratorio (ridden by Kieren Fallon for trainer Aidan O'Brien) defeated fellow 3YO colt & this season's Gr1 English Derby winner Motivator (Montjeu-Out West, by Gone West) & fast-finishing 4YO mare & winner of England's Gr1 Nassau Stakes on July 30 at Goodwood, Alexander Goldrun (Gold Away-Renashaan, by Darshaan). This was Ballydoyle-based Oratorio's 6th Gr1 race this year, having previously taken France's Gr1 Prix Jean Luc Lagardere at Longchamp last season; overall he now has 6 wins & 4 placings (including the Gr1 Irish 2000 Guineas at The Curragh on May 21 & Royal Ascot Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes at York on June 14) in 13 starts.
