Saint Liam Wins US Gr1 Woodward Stakes

In the US, 5YO entire Saint Liam (Saint Ballado-Quiet Dance, by Quiet American) "cruised to a 2-lengths victory" in the US$500,000 Gr1 Woodward Stakes (9 furlongs) at Belmont Park (his "final prep for the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Classic" on October 29 at Belmont) reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Saint Liam (ridden by Jerry Bailey for trainer Richard Dutrow) defeated 4YO entires Sir Shackleton (Miswaki-Naskra Colors, by Star De Naskra) & Commentator (Distorted Humor-Outsource, by Storm Bird). Saint Liam (who finished 2nd in this race last year behind eventual 2004 Horse-Of-The-Year Ghostzapper) now has 8 wins in 19 starts for US$2,023,396 earnings; this was his 3rd Gr1 victory in 2005 (also including the Gr1 Stephen Foster Handicap at Churchill Downs & Gr1 Donn Handicap at Gulfstream Park, plus a neck 2nd in the Gr1 Whitney Handicap on August 6 at Saratoga).
