Shawanda Wins French Gr1 Prix Vermeille

Monday, 12th September 2005

In France overnight, the Aga Khan's home-bred 3YO filly Shawanda (Sinndar-Shamawna. by Darshaan) "followed up her runaway 5-lengths Gr1 Irish Oaks win (at The Curragh in July) with the easiest of victories" in the Gr1 Prix Vermeille (2400m) at Longchamp, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Front-running Shawanda (ridden by Christophe Soumillon for trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre) made it 5-wins-in-succession as jockey Soumillon "spent the final 200m gesturing to the crowd & allowing the filly to coast home" ahead of Royal Highness (by Monsun) & Paita (by Intikhab). "On this display, Shawanda (who also won both France's Prix de la Seine at Longchamp in May & Prix de Royaumont at Chantilly in June) looks certain to start favorite for the Gr1 Prix De L'Arc De Triomphe in 2 weeks time."
