$700k Bonuses For Dane Shadow 1st Crop
In the NSW Hunter Valley, Scone-based Kitchwin Hills yesterday announced a major incentive for all breeders sending mares to Dane Shadow (Danehill-Slight Chance, by Centaine) in this his 1st season at stud. Every foal in Dane Shadow's 1st crop will be eligible to race for bonuses worth $700 000 "to be shared equally between the owner, breeder & trainer". A $100,000 bonus will apply to each of the season-opening 2YO races in 2008 at Royal Randwick in Sydney: the Gimcrack Stakes for fillies & Breeders Plate for the males; in addition, if 1 of Dane Shadow's progeny wins the 2009 Golden Slipper, a $500,000 bonus will also apply. Dane Shadow (winner of the Gr3 Ming Dynasty) was himself a star 2YO in a vintage season, competing against 4 of the best juveniles in recent years: Dance Hero, Alinghi, Fastnet Rock & Charge Forward. He ran 2nd in both lead-up races to the Golden Slipper & was an early favourite for the Slipper himself. And his 6-time Gr1-winning dam Slight Chance (Centaine-Lady Aloof) scored 2 juvenile Gr1 triumphs. Kitchwin Hills principal Graham Brown summed up: "It's a very competitive market out there & we are pleased to offer such an exciting incentive. I'm sure the idea will appeal to everyone involved in the racing industry, rewarding all parties including the trainers, owners & breeders."
