Keeneland Day-1: US$1.7m Storm Cat Filly
Lee Einsidler paid US$1.7 million for a Storm Cat filly who is a half-sister to 2002 undefeated champion 2YO male Vindication & declared "after signing the ticket that he would have spent more, if needed, to purchase her," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Einsidler (who last month at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale purchased Fusaichi Pegasus colt Star Of Pegasus for US$1.1 million) summed up: "For this one I would have had some deep pockets. I want to compete at the highest level. Growing up in New York & going to the races, this was something I dreamed about. I'm fortunate to have John Kimmel helping me out." The filly (consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency for Payson Stud & Overbrook Farm) is out of Gr3-winning Strawberry Road mare Strawberry Reason. Kimmel commented: "I thought this filly had the most upside of any in the sale. She's got a world-class pedigree by the best stallion in the world & a half to champion Vindication. Getting the opportunity to own one of these doesn't come up very often. Even if she doesn't set a foot on the track, she's still worth US$1 million, so there's not a lot of downside here." Kimmel said both Star Of Pegasus & the Storm Cat filly will winter in Florida at Live Oak Stud before entering training.
