Keeneland Day-1: US$2.7m Mr Greeley Filly

Tuesday, 13th September 2005

Bob & Beverly Lewis paid US$2.7-million for a Mr Greeley filly who is a full sister to Gr1 winner & sire El Corredor, & half-sister to Gr1 winner Roman Ruler. The filly will be trained by Bob Baffert (who trained El Corredor & currently trains Roman Ruler). Bob Lewis commented: "She just had an outstanding conformation. It's nice to be able to buy into such a great pedigree. We were expecting to spend a lot, but US$2.7 million sort of caught us by surprise. You want to do the right thing, though. Maybe she'll make that look like a bargain." The Kentucky-bred filly (consigned by John Sikura's Hill 'n' Dale Sales Agency for Liberation Farm & Needham-Betz Thoroughbreds) is out of unraced Silver Deputy mare Silvery Swan. The US$2.7 million is "the highest price ever for a Mr Greeley yearling". Sikura added: "She's a remarkable filly with great athleticism. She's a great walker & the pedigree is as good as you'll find in the sale. She's in great hands."
