Stellar Jayne Wins US Gr1 Ruffian Handicap

Tuesday, 13th September 2005

In the US, Godolphin's multiple Gr1-winning 4YO mare Stellar Jayne (Wild Rush-To The Hunt, by Relaunch) won the US$300,000 Gr1 Ruffian Handicap (8.5 furlongs) for fillies & mares at Belmont Park, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. Front-running Stellar Jayne (ridden by Jerry Bailey for trainer Saeed bin Suroor) defeated multiple Gr1-winner Society Selection (Coronado's Quest) & Halory Leigh (Halory Hunter). Kentucky-bred Stellar Jayne (who won both the Gr1 Gazelle Handicap & Gr1 Mother Goose Stakes at Belmont last year, plus 2nd in the Gr1 Coaching Club American Oaks) now has 8 wins in 20 starts for US$1,330,964 earnings. She is a half-sister to multiple US Gr1 winner Starrer. Godolphin bought Stellar Jayne from Spendthrift Farm for US$3.6 million at the Keeneland sale a few weeks after her 3rd-placing in last year's Gr1 Breeders' Cup Distaff (at which she is aiming again this year).
