23rd 2YO Winner To Bertolini

Wednesday, 14th September 2005

NZ's Rich Hill Stud shuttler Bertolini (Danzig-Aquilegia, by Alydar) recorded his 23rd individual winner when 2YO daughter Pommes Frites (Bertolini-Picolette, by Piccolo) won by 7-lengths over 6 furlongs at Lingfield in England, reported NZ Thoroughbred Marketing. Bertolini also made a promising start to the new UK sales season last week, with his initial 2 lots to go through the ring at Doncaster making 29,000 guineas (A$75,000) & 14,000 guineas (A$36,000). Bertolini (who is based at Darley's Overbury Stud in the Northern Hemisphere) was the success story of last year's European yearling sales, with 63 yearlings selling for an average £24,000 (A$57,000): 6 times his fee of £4,000 (A$9,000). He remains the leading 1st-crop sire by number of winners & is 4th overall on the 2YO sires' table in Britain & Ireland.
