The 21 7-figure yearlings is a record for a single session at Keeneland September & "helped the sale begin with a huge increase in gross: 188 yearlings selling for US$88,712,000 (up 40.4% compared to last year's 170 sold for US$63,185,000)". Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell commented: "The feeling all week was that the quality of horses on the grounds is at the highest level compared to the past 5 years & that was reflected in the prices. The numbers are higher than I thought they would be, but the buyers at this level of the market: their discretionary income is different than those participating later in the sale."
