Keeneland Day-2: US$3.8m Storm Cat Filly

Wednesday, 14th September 2005

Australian breeder Jim Fleming hit the jackpot when Irish bloodstock agent Demi O'Byrne (bidding for Coolmore's John Magnier & Michael Tabor) paid US$3.8 million for a Storm Cat filly out of Irish high-weight & stakes-winner Warrior Queen (by Quiet American) reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The filly (consigned by Eaton Sales as agent) was bred in Kentucky by Jim Fleming (principal at Australia's Tyreel Stud on Sydney's western outskirts); she is the 2nd foal out of Warrior Queen (the 1st A.P.Warrior is a winning 2YO who ran 6th in the Gr1 Del Mar Futurity on September 7). O'Byrne "proclaimed the horses being offered at the 2005 Keeneland September Yearling Sale the best he has seen in a long time" & summed up: "I rated this filly the best in the sale." Fleming realised a US$2m profit on the sale: he paid just over US$1 million to buy the mare & then spent US$500,000 on the Storm Cat service fee.
