Keeneland Day-2: Average Up 9.6%

Overall on Day-2 at Keeneland, 184 yearlings sold for US$98,502,000: "a Keeneland single-session record for a yearling sale & up 12.6% from US$87,463,000 last year," reported thoroughbredtimes.com. The Day-2 average of US$535,337 also "marked a Keeneland September record" & a 9.6% increase (from US$488,620 in 2004). Also on Day-2, 17 horses sold for US$1 million or more, boosting the cumulative Day-1 & Day-2 total to 38 (the previous record was 28 in 2000). Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell summed up: "We've always considered Keeneland September as the global market & today it proved very much so. We always describe auction sales as theater & I don't think anybody would deny that today was some of the best theater anybody has seen in a long time. Steven Spielberg would like it."
