Keeneland Day-3: US$700,000 Cherokee Run Colt

Thursday, 15th September 2005

Ron Winchell from Winchell Thoroughbreds paid US$700,000 for a Cherokee Run colt (out of unraced A.P.Indy mare Checkered Flag). David Fiske, who manages Winchell's racing operation, told thoroughbredtimes.com: "I liked him a lot: he had good size to him & was well balanced. He looks like he'll be an early type too & Cherokee Run has had a lot of good 2YOs." The colt (consigned by Bluewater sales as agent) is a Kentucky-bred half-brother to stakes-winner Victory Lap. Fiske also noted he "expects to be active throughout the opening week of the sale" after being out-bid on several yearlings during the sale's initial 2 days.
