Motivator To Stand At Royal Studs

Thursday, 15th September 2005

In the UK, this year's runaway Gr1 Epsom Derby winner Motivator (Montjeu-Out West, by Gone West) "will be syndicated as a stallion to stand at the Royal Studs in Norfolk," reported thoroughbredinternet.com. The Queen's bloodstock advisor John Warren announced overnight: "We are delighted that this outstanding son of Montjeu will be standing at stud in England." Warren also confirmed Motivator's last racecourse appearance "is intended in the US Gr1 Breeders' Cup Turf at Belmont Park on October 29. This will follow France's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp." Bred by Deerfield Farm in Newmarket, Motivator was a 75,000 guineas (A$195,000) purchase by Warren at the 2003 UK Tattersalls October yearling sale & is 1 of 8 stakes-winners from the 1st crop of Coolmore's 9YO dual-Derby winner & former NZ Windsor Park shuttler Montjeu (Sadler's Wells-Floripedes, by Top Ville) "whose son Hurricane Run gave his sire a Derby double in the Gr1 Irish Derby & another Scorpion added last weekend's Gr1 Doncaster St Leger to his sire's classic crop". Overall Motivator has 4 wins (also including the Gr1 Racing Post Trophy & Gr2 Dante Stakes) & 2 runner-ups (in the Gr1 Eclipse Stakes & Gr1 Irish Champion Stakes) from 6 starts for £1,155,946 (A$2.77m) earnings.
