Harvey Calls For Sydney Feature Money Boost

Friday, 16th September 2005

Gerry Harvey also "urged Sydney race clubs to boost prize-money in feature races or risk falling further behind Melbourne racing," reported The Daily Telegraph. Harvey highlighted "huge prize-money imbalances in the weight-for-age races between Sydney & Melbourne this Spring" & declared: "I'll certainly contemplate moving more of my horses to Melbourne in the future. There is a lot more prize-money in Melbourne than there is in Sydney. I live in Sydney & as an owner I like to see my horses race here; but if I can make $1 million more in prize-money each season by racing in Melbourne, then I have to look at that. It's a reason to send more of my horses to Melbourne, but the only problem is there are too many wet tracks down there."
