Monday, 19th September 2005

Frank Stronach & Michael Daly have purchased 4YO stallion & 2004 English Gr1 Epsom Derby winner North Light (Danehill-Sought Out, by Rainbow Quest) for stud duty at Stronach's Adena Springs Kentucky for the 2006 season, reported thoroughbredtimes.com. North Light's owner-breeders, the Weinstock family of Ballymacoll Stud, retired him after running 2nd in his only start this year: England's Gr3 Brigadier Gerard Stakes at Sandown Park on May 31. Last season North Light also won England's Gr2 Dante Stakes & finished 2nd in the Gr1 Irish Derby; he finished the season as England's high-weighted 3YO between 11-14 furlongs. Overall Irish-bred North Light (trained by Sir Michael Stoute) won 3 of 7 career starts & earned US$1,989,577. His dam Sought Out was also a Gr1 winner & European high-weight. Stronach commented: "Danehill is one of the most remarkable successes in thoroughbred history & we are delighted to be standing one of his best racing sons. Every time you pick up the race results, you see young sons of Danehill siring top winners all over the world. North Light is the only Gr1 winner by Danehill standing in the US. We expect him to be very popular."
