Desert Fox Sires 1st Winner

Wednesday, 21st September 2005

NZ Westbury Stud sire Desert Fox (Sadler's Wells-Radiant, by Foolish Pleasure) recorded his 1st winner on Saturday when Rommel's Gold, from the stable of Melbourne trainer Mick Price, scored an emphatic win over 1750m at Geelong. Rommel's Gold was having his 4th career start and drew in hot favourite Desert Heiress to win going away by 1 1Ú4 lengths. An $80,000 yearling at 2004 Adelaide Magic Millions Sale, Rommel's Gold was bred by Ferncourt Pty Ltd and is the first foal from the unraced Gold Brose mare Suzy O'Neil. A Gr3 winning miler and placed in the Gr1 Irish Derby, Desert Fox is bred on the same cross as leading ill-fated Australian sire Scenic, and as expected his progeny are progressing well now they have turned three.
