Improved Conditions For Vic Female Jockeys

Thursday, 22nd September 2005

Racing Victoria Limited (RVL), in conjunction with Country Racing Victoria and the metropolitan racing clubs, is set to implement a series of improvements to support female jockeys in Victoria. Improvements will focus on raising the standard of female jockey facilities at racecourses and enhancing the jockey welfare program to specifically meet the needs of female jockeys. These measures are the result of an extensive research and consultation process undertaken with the support of female jockey Michelle Payne that delved into the barriers to the progression of female jockeys in the racing industry. The Victorian Institute of Sport has also played a major role in examining barriers, and conducted a series of associated seminars. A grant of $20,500 was allocated from the Racing Community Development Fund to plan this Initiative.
