No Boycott But Sheikh Policy Shift
Sheikh Mohammed's advisers "denied he is to boycott the progeny of sires belonging to his rival sales ring superpower John Magnier, as signs of a cold war between the pair sent shock waves through the bloodstock world" reported racingpost.co.uk. However "it appears the Sheikh will not be active in the market for Coolmore sires' progeny at forthcoming sales to anything like the extent of old. Underlying this shift in policy is a perceived lack of support for the Sheikh's Darley breeding operation from Magnier's Coolmore empire. The suggestion from within the Sheikh's team is that Magnier is deemed not to have reciprocated the investment Darley has put into the produce of Coolmore." The Sheikh's breeding adviser John Ferguson "hinted that his boss's patience had run out with Coolmore" when he said: "Darley has more than 50 stallions who this year will cover 6,000 mares worldwide. We have a responsibility to support those breeders who support us."
