Starcraft Wins UK Gr1 QEII Stakes

Monday, 26th September 2005

Australia's multiple Gr1-winning 5YO entire Starcraft (Soviet Star-Flying Floozie, by Pompeii Court) added a 2nd European Gr1 triumph (& 5th Gr1 overall) & "once again proved too good for Europe's best milers" with a "dominant" 0.75-lengths victory over a star-studded field in England's £200,000 (A$480,000) Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (8 furlongs) at Newmarket, reported thoroughbredinternet.com. Paul Makin's 2004 Gr1 AJC Australian Derby (2400m) winner Starcraft (ridden by French jockey Christophe Lemaire for Newmarket-based trainer Luca Cumani) defeated Godolphin's triple Gr1-winning boom 3YO colt Dubawi (Dubai Millennium-Zomaradah, by Deploy) & Dubawi's 6YO stable-mate Blatant (Machiavellian-Negligent, by Ahonoora), with 6YO 5-time Gr1-winner Rakti (Polish Precedent-Ragera, by Rainbow Quest) 4th. At his previous start, NZ Waikato Stud-bred Starcraft (an NZ$80,000 yearling at the 2002 NZ Bloodstock Karaka Premier Sale in Auckland) scored a comprehensive 2.5-lengths victory over an equally star-studded field "after making all the running" & recording "the 3rd fastest time ever" in France's Gr1 Prix du Moulin (1600m) at Longchamp in Paris on September 4. Overall Starcraft now has 11 wins (also including the NZ Gr1 Mudgway Stakes over 1400m & Australian Gr1 Chipping Norton Stakes over 1600m) & 7 placings in 21 starts.
