Private Steer Retired To Stud

Australian owner Paul Makin (still celebrating the weekend victory by his multiple Gr1-winning 5YO stalion Starcraft in England's Gr1 Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Newmarket) has confirmed his other international campaigner, triple Gr1-winning 6YO mare Private Steer has "failed to recover" from the injury she received in Australia last season & "the decision has been made to pull the plug" on her US campaign & retire her to stud, reported racenet.com.au. Makin "will now try to secure a nomination to southern hemisphere time to either reigning US Horse-Of-The-Year Ghostzapper or proven international stud success Kingmambo". Private Steer (Danehill Dancer-Lisheenowen, by Semipalatinsk) retires with 12 wins (including the Gr1 Doncaster Handicap over 1600m, Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap over 1400m & Gr1 All Aged Stakes over 1400m) & 5 placings (including the Gr1 Coolmore Classic over 1500m, Gr1 Doomber 10,000 over 1350m, Gr1 Flight Stakes over 1600m & Gr1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m) in 20 starts for $3,407,290 prize-money. Private Steer was an $18,000 bargain at the 2001 Magic Millions Tamworth Yearling Sale.
