Goffs Day-2: $2.88m Kingmambo Colt
In Ireland overnight, "the Maktoums' battle royal with Coolmore erupted on a new front" when Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid al Maktoum's Shadwell Estate out-bid John Magnier & paid the Day-2 top price of €1.8m (A$2.88m) for a Kingmambo colt (out of Sadler's Wells mare Karsavina) at the Goffs Orby Yearling Sale, reported racingpost.co.uk. "Kingmambo stands at neither Coolmore nor Darley, but at Lane's End in Kentucky, so this colt was fair game for both of them & each side repeatedly knocked the other's bids as if money was nothing more than an instrument of battle." The Kentucky-bred colt (consigned by Flash Conroy's Glenvale Stud as agent) is the 1st foal out of 2001 Gr1 Irish Oaks 3rd-placed Karsavina (a half-sister to multiple Gr1 winner Urbane, dam of multiple graded winner Suave). Sheikh Hamdan commented: "This is a very good looking colt & he is highly bred. I also think he is one of the best horses we have seen this week & hopefully he has a good heart."
